“Are you pro-life?”

This may not seem like the question to ask someone pulling into the parking lot of Planned Parenthood, but you may be surprised to learn that many respond with a yes. Consider the following synopsis of an encounter I had this month:

As the car approached I waved and offered literature. Stopping at the entrance to the PP parking lot, a young lady said, “Oh I’m not here for that.” I replied, “I never assume anyone is coming here for an abortion, I understand that they provide other services here” and then added, “Are you prolife?” “Oh, yes I’m against abortion!” she replied.  “Can I ask why you oppose abortion?” She answered, “It kills a child.” (I must have had a nearly identical conversation thirty times this last month)

Can I ask why you are coming to PP?” She stated, “I am engaged, very soon to be married, and I am exploring birth control.”

I proceeded to explain the truth of abortifacient (abortion inducing) birth control methods: the pill, Depo-Provera (the shot), implants, and IUDs.  I shared with her about Natural Family Planning and directed her to some local resources that could help.

Are you a Christian?” I asked.  “Yes” she replied. I then asked her to consider the bigger issue; our worldly view of children as opposed to God’s view, clearly revealed in the scriptures, that children are a blessing. I explained to her that it is really a matter of trust, or faith, in Him. After about fifteen minutes of gently instructing and admonishing her, I asked, “So what do you think?” She replied, “Well I’m going to go in and talk to the doctor here anyway, I want to explore all the options.

I am generally very gentle in my delivery but at this point the Spirit led me to press her harder, so I did. “God has sent me here today for the very purpose of speaking to you, to spare you from this error. I beg you in the name of Jesus! Do not enter this building. This is a place of death where children are sacrificed. This is a demonic stronghold, a place of unspeakable evil. God’s children have nothing here!” At this point something changed in her. She said, “Thank you.” She was convicted by the Holy Spirit and confessed, “I just left my pastor’s office for one of my last pre-marital counseling sessions and was filling out the paperwork for PP while I waited. When he came in the room I quickly covered the logo at the top (with my Bible) so that he wouldn’t see it. Now I see that I was ashamed because it is wrong for me to come here. God did send you here to talk to me.” I urged her to trust fully in Him. God will bless her faith. He never disappoints.

So Christian, I ask you, “Are you prolife?” Trust Him fully. He will bless your faith. He never disappoints.
